Considering a Whippet?

Sporting Fields Hamlet

Whippets want to be with their people all the time! This is not a good breed for you if you plan to put your dog away when you have company or "when Dad gets home." A whippet left alone for long periods often becomes destructive and neurotic. Be sure you want a constant companion before you decide on a whippet!

Our first whippet litter (after many years of collies!) was born June 24, 2000, to Ivy (Ch. Appraxin Sensation at Timbreblue) by Chase (Appraxin Kamikaze), who later went on to gain a title in freestyle dancing! Banger was the only boy, and he has five sisters: Ember, Ellie May, Snitch, Sasha, and Price. Our puppy pictures of this group are very limited, as we didn't have a digital camera back then.

Banger went to live with the Fitzpatricks in Florida and Sasha with the Ramsdells in Virginia.  Ember "carried on the name" by becoming the foundation of Marnay Whippets and later retired to live with the Brandts  in Virginia. Ellie May went to Indiana with Mr. Cassidy and Price moved to North Carolina. She produced a couple of litters by Ch Artesia-Kachina Rainmaker for Chadwick Whippets and retired with the Eldredges in North Carolina.

We kept little Snitch here, but she was attacked by a rescue Dobe we were fostering when she was only six months old. It was touch-and-go for several weeks as to whether she would survive, but thanks to Dr. Edward Showalter of Lexington, VA, she pulled through. (The Dobe was placed in a great home where he was the only dog!) We decided after that not to breed Snitch...she had been through enough. About a year later, we got a call from Linda Burgess who was looking for an adult whippet to love. Linda and I talked for an hour and she more or less "talked me out of" Snitch, who now lives with the Burgess-Dunlaps in northern Virginia.

And why did we call them the Naughty Girls Plus One? Well, this was the litter that started the "theme" we have maintained throughout the years. Our puppies' registered names are "things your mother told you never to do." And so we had..

Timbreblue Slams the Door -- Banger
Timbreblue Plays with Matches - Ember
Timbreblue Blames Her Brother - Snitch

Sasha, Ellie May, and Price were renamed by their owners (we never ask that our owners go along with our theme. Admittedly it is a little off the wall!)
