Considering a Whippet?

transferred71008 3023.jpg

Appraxin Kamikaze -- Chase

ConsiderĀ bringing homeĀ a senior rescue whippet. These older dogs are often the easiest to manage, the most appreciative, and need lots of love in their final years. There's no better way to learn about whippets and decide if this is really the breed for you than to live with one for awhile, and a senior, after all, is not the long-term commitment that a puppy or young adult would be.

Coats/Sweaters/PJs

Taylor Made Coats - Check out their Wistwind-style coats for some really special whippet coats. These are made to order with your dog's measurements, and she can even embroider a name or kennel name on them. -- Recommended by Nancy Doucette

Decotogs - One of our favorites! They make wonderful PJs! Try the four legged PJs if you want them to fit all the way back to the butt and down the legs. Your dog can also wear the PJs with back legs swinging loose. Pullovers are easier to put on and take off but not as warm. An average whippet wears a size "Large", an adult male probably wears an "Extra Large", and a 10 week old puppy wears a "Small". We can usually put young puppies in a "Medium" and roll up the cuffs till it fits better. When we buy the four legged PJs we often have to roll up the cuffs for smaller girls. They have fabulous sales several times a year, you can get on their mailing list to hear about the best discounts.

Follow Your Lead - A one stop shop! Coats, jammies, panties, belly bands, necklaces, and more! A whippet breeder makes these products and they are top-notch! Get your order in EARLY because she is so popular she is always busy.

Hound Togs - Excellent quality tailored custom coats for not too much ($60 for a lightweight coat) and they fit like a glove. Make sure you get exact measurements for your dog, these coats are MADE TO FIT!

Chilly Dogs Coats -  For the northern whippets who need a REALLY warm and comfy coat. The coats we like come with an attached snood (turtleneck) and a panel that goes under the belly and snaps over the dog's back. It keeps the dogs very warm!

Coats 4 Greys - They make whippet coat/snood combos too ($30). A very economical choice for a coat with some growing room (a good choice for puppy owners!) -- Recommended by Naydene Mitchell

Collars/Necklaces

2 Hounds Design - These collars are built by a greyhound person and they are heavy weight! They're designed to not break under the full weight of a greyhound pulling on them. They have top quality hardware and are guaranteed. We love the colors and patterns available. They also send out email newsletters advertising new designs and sales benefiting greyhound rescue.

Mrs. Bones - High class collars with elegance and style. They last FOREVER and are so well made. You might need to save up for your favorite style, but they're worth it! -- Recommended by Jeanne Ayers

Swiftsure Originals - The good: Excellent quality collars and coats that last forever. Collars are lined with a soft fleece material so they don't irritate your whippet's neck. The bad: No online ordering, you have to email your order and mail a check. They're worth it!!

Furry Baby Fashions - Martingale collars at low prices.

Whippet collars on Etsy - A community site where individual artisans can post items for sale. Many items are one-of-a-kind!

ID Tags

Boomerang Tags - I love the Collar Tags because they don't jingle jangle, they lay flat against the collar. They also last FOREVER. I bought my first tags over ten years ago and they are just as clear and legible today.

Beds & Blankets

Snoozer Cozy Caves - The site is hard to navigate but the beds are worth every penny! Free shipping east of the Mississippi. An adult whippet uses a size "Large" ... the "Extra Large" is great for two or three whippets to share. The cover is removable and machine washable. A must buy!

Toys & Treats

Booda Soft Frisbee - A favorite because it is a "soft bite" toy and flies great. A favorite of many Timbreblue whippets.  -- Recommended by Boo Ayers.

Best Friends General Store - Maria recommends this site because they have lots of interactive toys to keep dogs busy -- especially when you have long workdays!

Show/Performance Equipment

Agility Tools - Our own Timbreblue family members Bobbie and Fred Lutz are huge agility enthusiasts, so it makes sense that they make their own agility equipment.

Dog Tired Designs - A great source for kangaroo show leads. I asked on the Whippet-L list for suggestions and the overwhelming response was that this website has the best prices and quality.
